THE TRINITY:
Fact or Fiction?
Are
their actually three members of the Godhead? Or, is their only one God with
three personalities? How many are there, one, two, or three? Where should we
search this out? Should we ask our pastors and rely on what he says? If he is a
type of pastor that says, “there are this many or that many,” without
showing you in the Old and the New Testaments find some one else and ask them
the question. This is a description of a preacher, take good heed to a brother
like this. And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the
people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many
proverbs. The
preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was
upright, even words of truth. (Ecclesiastes
12:9-10) If you have an instructor like that you are truly blessed. Let's
jump right into the lesson and find out what the Word of God has to say about
this. We will also take a look at some history and find out where this trinity
doctrine came from. Let's start this lesson in the beginning. We will go to
Genesis chapter one and begin to use some simple arithmetic.
And God
said, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and
over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over
every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26)
Note
what God says, “Let us make man in our image.” The word “us” implies
more than one correct? But, that could mean two or two million. Some people say,
“that was angels that God was talking to.” Was it? What does the word image mean? It means a
reproduction of a person or an object, especially a sculptured likeness. Note
this in the verse, “after our likeness.” Why did the Lord switch the wording
when he created man? Take a look at this verse in Genesis chapter one.
And God
made the beast of the earth after his
kind, and cattle after their kind,
and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after
his kind: and God saw that it was good. (Genesis 1:25)
In
the 26th verse God said that man would be after His likeness not after His kind.
Meaning man would look like Him but, will not be made of the same substance, God
is a spirit, man is a soul meaning flesh and blood.
But, people continue to say, “it's only one God, and He was talking to the
angels. Well, let see what an angel looks like, and then decide if man looks
like the angels. We will go into Ezekiel chapter one.
And I
looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a
fire infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst
thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Also out of the midst
thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their
appearance; they had the likeness of a
man. And every one had four faces,
and every one had four wings. And
their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of
burnished brass. (Ezekiel 1:4-7)
What are
these four living creatures called? Let's go to Ezekiel chapter 10 and find out.
This is
the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar;
and I knew that they were the cherubims.
Every one had four faces apiece, and every one four wings; and the likeness of
the hands of a man was under their wings. (Ezekiel
10:20-21)
These
creatures are cherubims angels. Let's reason together sister and brothers, in
Genesis chapter one verse 26, the Lord said, “Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness.” When was the last time we've seen a man with four faces
four wings and calves feet? We have never seen a man that looks like that. So,
those people that think the Lord was talking to an angel have just been proven
wrong by the word of God. For the simple fact that we cannot find any
man upon this earth or anywhere else in the creation that looks like an angel. This
lets us know that God has hands, feet, nose, mouth, eyes etc… The verse
does say He created us in His image correct? So, whom was the Lord talking to if
it wasn't the angels? Was He talking to Himself? Of course not, we will find out
who was doing the talking and who was being spoken to. We will point this out
later. Let's return to Genesis. We will go to Genesis chapter 3 verse 22 and
watch how it starts out singular and then plural.
And the
LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us,
to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the
tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: (Genesis
3:22)
Notice
the scripture says, “the LORD God said,” (singular). Now note the switch to
plural, “the man is become as one of us.”
“Us” implies more than one. As we go further in this study we will see
exactly how many members make up the Godhead. Notice the next verse how it
switches back to the singular form.
Therefore
the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from
whence he was taken. (Genesis 3:23)
We can't
stop here, Let's go to Genesis chapter 11, and see the same occurrence. We are
not going to concern ourselves with the story line; we are only locating how
many members make up the Godhead.
And the
LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.
And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language;
and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which
they have imagined to do. (Genesis
11:5-6)
Notice
it says the Lord came down to see the city. Now watch the change in the next
verse from singular to plural.
Go to, let
us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not
understand one another's speech. (Genesis
11:7)
See the
change; “let Us go down.” Once again the word “us” implies more than
one. Now that we see there's more than
one member of the Godhead, let's find out how many are actually in the God
family. We can not use only one verse and say, “see, I told you it was this or
that.” We must rightly divide the Word, line upon line, precept upon precept,
here a little and there a little. Now, Let's take a look at the second Psalm.
The
kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against
the LORD, and against his anointed,
saying, (Psalms 2:2)
This is
a future event. Who is the Lord's Anointed? Is it king David? No. Let's read a
little further in this chapter and see whose the Lord's Anointed.
He that
sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then
shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet
have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. (Psalms
2:4-6)
I could
tell you who this is but we must allow the Bible to speak for itself. Let's read
the next verse.
I will
declare the decree: the LORD hath said
unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. (Psalms 2:7)
Who is
the only begotten son? Jesus.
He became the Son of God at His
resurrection; He was the first born from the dead. How many do you see? The LORD,
that's one. Thou art my Son,
that's two. Back up to verse 2 and
how many do you see? The Lord
meaning the Father, that's one.
His Anointed
meaning the Son Jesus, that's two.
Now let's go to the 45th Psalm and see if we can find the third member.
My heart
is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king:
my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. Thou art fairer than the children of
men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God
hath blessed thee for ever. Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O most mighty, with thy glory and thy majesty. (Psalms 45:1-3)
Who is
the most mighty? Can a man carry the title most mighty? Let's continue.
And in
thy majesty ride prosperously because of truth and meekness and righteousness;
and thy right hand shall teach thee terrible things. Thine arrows are sharp in
the heart of the king's enemies; whereby the people fall under thee. Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right
sceptre. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God,
thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
(Psalms 45:4-7)
How many
do you see? Note the 7th verse, “therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee
with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.” We have two again, (God, thy
God.) Who's throne will be established forever? Let's go to Hebrews chapter one
and see how Paul quoted this scripture and also who's
throne will be established forever.
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in
time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto
us by his Son, whom he hath appointed
heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:1-2)
Within
this verse you see the Son did not start
with Mary, He simply came through Mary. Note what the verse says, “Whom He
hath appointed heir of all things, by whom
also he made the worlds.” Now we see who was doing the talking and
also who was being spoken to. The Father and the Son are in this joint venture. Through the Son the
world was made. Let's skip down to the 5th verse.
For unto
which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I
begotten thee? And again, I will be to
him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? (Hebrews
1:5)
He never
said to an angel, “thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.” Let's
continue.
And
again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let
all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh
his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. (Hebrews 1:6-7)
Here we
see that the angels are spirits and they are also servants. Every angel that did not follow satan is a holy
spirit. All the angels good or evil are servants to the Lord.
But unto
the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God,
is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. (Hebrews
1:8)
Notice
something very important, the Father is calling the Son, God. “Thy throne, O
God, is for ever and ever.” I can't understand why some sects have a problem
with the Son being God. If the Jesus is the Son of God, what would that make Him? God! When
horse have a offspring, is it called a dog? No, a horse. Some people make
things that are so simple difficult. Now, let's go to the book of John and see which
one of the Godhead members was doing the talking.
In the beginning
was the Word, and the Word was with
God, and the Word was God. The same
was in the beginning with God. All
things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
(John 1:1-3)
The Word
was the one that was doing the talking, which is Jesus.
He is the Son of God correct? In the beginning the Word was known as Yahweh or
Jehovah. When the Word came in the flesh
He took upon Himself His Fathers name which is Jesus. There was no Father and Son it in the
beginning it was only God. The word God was translated from the
Hebrew word Elohim. Elohim is an uno-plural
word in Hebrew, meaning one office but more than one participant. Take
another look at the three verses above. How many members do you see? Note this
part of the verse, “In the beginning was the Word.” That's one
member. Notice the next part, “and the Word was with God.” Being that Word
is Jesus and in this case God meaning the Father, how many do you see? (Two)
Where is the Holy Ghost? Shouldn't he be in the beginning also? Let's return to
the scripture and see if we can find the alleged third member. Pay close
attention to this 1st verse in the 110th Psalm.
A Psalm
of David. The LORD said unto my Lord,
Sit thou at my right hand, until I
make thine enemies thy footstool. (Psalms
110:1)
How many
do you see in the scripture above? The “Lord” , meaning the Father (one). Said unto my Lord (two).
One plus one equals two even in Chinese arithmetic. We have a small dilemma, who
is David's Lord? Let's go to the Book of Matthew and find out.
While
the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What think ye of
Christ? whose son is he? They say
unto him, The son of David. He saith
unto them, How then doth David in spirit
call him Lord, saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he
his son? (Matthew 22: 41-45)
Who is
this Lord that David called Lord in the 110th Psalm? Christ!
When Jesus said, “How then doth David in spirit call him Lord.” The
word “spirit” in this case simply represents the word of God. Where did
David make the statement, “the Lord said unto my Lord?” In the 110th Psalm.
This simply shows even the Lord's word is
spirit. Now let's take a look at one verse in the Book of Colossians.
If ye
then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. (Colossians 3:1)
Who sits
at the right hand of God? Christ!
Once again we have two members in the Godhead. We have a problem here, we can
only locate 2 members. Where is the
elusive third member or is there a third God that sit on the left hand of the
Father? Let's go to the book of Isaiah and sum this up. We will see in this set of scriptures that there is in fact only two
member of the Godhead. Read these scriptures carefully as I know you have
done the others, and we will see the Lord Jesus is doing the talking through the
mouth of Isaiah.
And of
whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not
remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? have not I held my peace even of old,
and thou fearest me not? I will declare thy righteousness, and thy works; for
they shall not profit thee. When thou criest, let thy companies deliver thee;
but the wind shall carry them all away; vanity shall take them: but he that
putteth his trust in me shall possess the land, and shall inherit my holy
mountain; And shall say, Cast ye up, cast ye up, prepare the way, take up the
stumbling block out of the way of my people. (Isaiah
57:11-14)
Note,
man cannot make the above statement. Who will judge us by our works? Jesus. If we walk in His word we will inherit the earth. Now, let's clear this trinity myth up.
For thus
saith the high and lofty One that
inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy;
I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and
humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart
of the contrite ones. (Isaiah 57:15)
Note
what's being said, “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is
of a contrite and humble spirit.” Notice the scripture says I (Jesus) dwell
with Him (The Father) what does “HIM” imply? Only two sisters and brothers.
Now let's recap what we have learned. Remember that in Genesis, chapters one,
three and eleven the scriptures stated
“let us” express indirectly that there is more than one member of the
Godhead. In John, chapter one in verse one, it displays two members only by
stating, “The Word was with God and the Word was God.” In the book of
Revelations in the nineteenth chapter will established that the “Word”
mention in the book of John was in fact Jesus. From there we went back into the
scriptures to the book of Psalms the 45th chapter. The seventh verse in the 45th
chapter of Psalms states, “God, thy God” revealing once again only two
members of the Godhead. Once we did that, we returned to the New Testament into
the Book of Hebrews, chapter one, and we saw that Paul was quoting the 45th
Psalm. From the Book of Hebrews, we returned to the scripture taking a look at
the 110th Psalm. In the 110th Psalm we found 2 members. The scripture stated,
“The Lord said unto my Lord.” From there, we went back to the New Testament
into the Book of Matthew. We were shown that Jesus was quoting the 110th Psalm.
Then, we went back into Paul's writings and took a look at the Book of
Colossians, chapter three, verse one. In that verse we saw once again two
members of the Godhead. The verse stated that, “Christ sits on the right hand
of God.” Finally we went into the Book of Isaiah, chapter fifty seven, verse
15, where it states, “I dwell in the high and lofty place with Him.” Showing
clearly that there are two members only in the Godhead. Before we continue,
let's take a look at the book of John, in chapter seventeen and show that Jesus
was in fact God before He came in the flesh.
These
words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify
thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal
life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they
might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have
glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me
to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me
with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
(John 17:1-5)
Note the
fifth verse, “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the
glory which I had with thee before the world was.” That's very clear don't you
think? That verse shows Jesus has been
around forever. Now, take a look at John chapter one verse one again, so we
can have a clear understanding that Jesus, known as Jehovah or Yahweh before He
came in His father's name, is in fact one of the members of the Godhead. In the
beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John
1:1) Now that we have established there are only two members, let see were the
roman christian has thrown a third member into the Godhead. Let's take a look at
some world history and see how the Gentiles made something that is so simple
difficult. Pay close attention and you will see that they had no idea how to
explain the Godhead. Here is a quote from the Grolier encyclopedia.
Difficulties
soon emerged in formulating and understanding this threefold
"economy." Divergent views led early to numerous Trinitarian
controversies such as those over subordinationism (the teaching that the Son is
subordinate to the Father and the Holy Spirit to both; see Arianism) and
modalism (the view that the three modes are transitory; see Monarchianism and
Sabellianism). The Councils of Nicaea
(325) and Constantinople (381) outlined the dogma of the Trinity in express
rejection of these teachings.
The Nicene, or Niceno-Constantinopolitan,
creed has defined through the ages, for both Catholic (Roman and Orthodox) and
Reformation (Lutheran, Reformed, and Anglican) churches, the basic doctrine of the Trinity. Catholic and Protestant theology
has sought in various ways to make the doctrine stated at Nicaea comprehensible.
Saint Augustine's lucid analogies of
the divine Trinity in our experience of ourselves as memory, understanding, and
will, and in our experience of our own existence as characterized by being,
truth, and love, have been the point of departure for most subsequent study. In
the religious thought of the Enlightenment (17th and 18th centuries), there was
a strong reaction against Trinitarianism as an "orthodox" mystery
without basis in either experience or reason this was the view of Unitarianism
and deism and of much 19th-century liberal theology. The great figures of
20th-century theology Karl Barth, Paul Tillich, and, most recently, Karl Rahner
despite their diversity of outlook, have again found the Trinity
a central, in fact an unavoidable, structure for expressing the Christian
understanding of God. (End of quote)
As you
can see they had no idea about the Godhead. Now, what will do is take a look at
this holy spirit that man has ordained him as a god. We will start in the Old
Testament and then go into the New Book. Now pay close attention to what's being
said.
Now
Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he
led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God,
even to Horeb. And the angel
of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of
a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was
not consumed. (Exodus 3:1-2)
Note
what the scripture says, “the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame
of fire out of the midst of a bush.” Who was in the bush? The angel of the Lord correct. Keep that in mind. Let's continue.
And
Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not
burnt. And when the LORD saw that he
turned aside to see, God called unto him
out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am
I.
And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the
place whereon thou standest is holy ground. (Exodus 3:3-5)
Note
what the scripture says, “the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called
unto him out of the midst of the bush.” Who was in the bush? Was it the Lord or the angel of the Lord? Remember what was stated
in verse 2. “The angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of
the midst of a bush.” The angel was in the bush, not the Lord. Let's continue.
Moreover
he said, I am the God of thy father, the
God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid
his face; for he was afraid to look upon God. And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my
people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their
taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of
the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good
land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the
Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the
Hivites, and the Jebusites. (Exodus
3:6-8)
Who is
doing the talking? Is it the Lord or is the angel? Let's go into Exodus the 23rd
chapter, begin at the 20th verse, and let's see who's doing the talking.
Behold, I
send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the
place which I have prepared. Beware of him, and obey his voice, provoke him not;
for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my name is in him. But if
thou shalt indeed obey
his voice, and do
all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an
adversary unto thine adversaries. (Exodus
23:20-23)
Is the
Lord doing the talking? Note what's being said, “I send an Angel before
thee.” Remember in Exodus chapter 3 the scripture stated, “ He has come down
to deliver His people.” Who came down? The
angel of the Lord came down, not the Lord Himself. Notice what else the
verse says, “Beware of him, and obey his voice, he will not pardon your
transgressions: for my name is in him.” Only God can pardon transgressions,
not an angel. Note this, “But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all
that I speak.” Plain and simple sisters and brothers,
this particular angel brings the message to men and he will speak only what the
Lord tells him to speak. Now, let's go to the book of Isaiah chapter 63 and
see this a little clearer. Note who was sent and also what he is called.
In all
their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel
of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed
them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old. But they rebelled,
and vexed his holy
Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought
against them. (Isaiah 63:9-10)
This
spirit was called two different names, the
angel of his presence and holy spirit. Remember in Exodus the 3rd chapter
the angel told Moses, “Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy
feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. Meaning this angel is also holy or a holy spirit, and also remember that
this spirit was called the angel of the Lord. Keep these names in mind as we
go through this study. Notice what's being said, “the angel of his presence
saved them.” Save whom? Israel! And when did the angel of the Lords presence
save them? In the days of old. But they rebelled, and vexed his holy
spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against
them. Let's see what took place when this angel fought against the children of
Israel. We will go to the book of Judges. PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO WHO's TALKING!
And an angel
of the LORD came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said,
I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land
which I sware
unto your fathers; and I
said, I will never break my covenant with you. And ye shall make no
league with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall throw down their altars: but
ye have not obeyed my voice: why have ye done this? (Judges
2:1-2)
It's
the angel that doing the talking correct?
Notice what he says, “I made you to go
up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your
fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you: but ye have not
obeyed my voice. The angel has no covenant with Israel! The
angel is simple speaking for the Lord. Remember in Exodus the 23rd chapter
it states, “if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, whose voice? The
angel of the Lord. And do all that I speak then I will be an enemy unto thine
enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries.” Also remember what it
said in Isaiah 63rd chapter, “they rebelled, and
vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought
against them.” Let's see what happen in the result of Israel disobedience
and how this holy spirit fought against them.
Wherefore
I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as
thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you. And it came to
pass, when the
angel of the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel,
that the people lifted up their voice, and wept. (Judges
2:3-4)
That's
very clear don't you think? The angel of
the LORD spake these words unto all the children of Israel, not the Lord
Himself. This angel simply brings the message from God to the people. Each
time this angel spoke he sounded as if he was God Himself. By saying, “I made
you to go up out of the land of Egypt, I made a covenant with you, I will be an
adversary unto thine adversaries. But we see plainly that it is in fact the
angel that is speaking. As we go along remember the names this angel was called,
the angel of the Lord, angel of His presence and also a holy spirit. Let's go
into the book of Luke and see who brings the message. We will see nothing has
changed. The Lord still uses the same method of operation as He used in the Old
Testament.
There
was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias,
of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name
was Elisabeth. (Luke 1:5)
Let's
see who's the messenger.
And
there appeared unto him an angel of the
Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. And when Zacharias
saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But
the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy
wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. (Luke
1:11-13)
We
will see this angel is called the angel of the Lord and he also says he stands
in the presence of God, or in other words, The angel of the His presence just as
the Old Book states. Now, let's see what this angel’s name is that brings the
message.
And
Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man,
and my wife well stricken in years. And the angel answering said unto him, I
am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee,
and to show thee these glad tidings. And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and
not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because
thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
(Luke 1:18-20)
The
angel’s name is Gabriel!
Notice how he was sent to give Zacharias a message. If someone sends you, do you
speak your own words? Or the words of the person that you were sent by? Let's
return to the scripture into the book of Nehemiah and see another name Gabriel
(the spirit of truth), the messenger of God has.
Yea,
when they had made them a molten calf, and said, This is thy God that brought
thee up out of Egypt, and had wrought great provocations; Yet thou in thy
manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud
departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of
fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go. Thou gavest also thy good spirit to instruct
them, and withheldest not thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them
water for their thirst. (Nehemiah
9:18-20)
Note
something very important out of this set of scriptures. In the 20th verse it
states, “Thou gavest also thy good
spirit to instruct them.” Here we see Gabriel’s purpose. He is the one
who gives instructions and we also
see he is called “good spirit.” Let us go to the book of Daniel and watch
Gabriel instruct Daniel.
And
it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, and sought for the
meaning, then, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.
And I heard a man's voice between the banks of Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel,
make this man to understand the vision. (Daniel 8:15-16)
We are
not concerned with vision. But, note what's being said, “Gabriel, make this
Daniel to understand the vision.” Gabriel
was sent to teach Daniel about a vision. Now let's go into the 9th chapter
and we will see the exact same thing. We will see Gabriel lead Daniel and
guiding him into truths. Note how Daniel got his instructions.
In the
first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was
made king over the realm of the Chaldeans; In the first year of his reign I
Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD
came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the
desolations of Jerusalem. And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer
and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes: (Daniel
9:1-3)
Notice
how Daniel studied the book of Jeremiah prayed and fasted. Look what happen
three weeks later, let's skip to the 20th verse. (WE ALSO MUST KEEP THE
COMMANDMENTS TO RECEIVE THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH)
And
whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my
people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the
holy mountain of my God; Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning,
being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation.
And he informed me, and talked with
me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come
forth to give thee skill and understanding. At the beginning of thy
supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to show thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore
understand the matter, and consider the vision. (Daniel 9:20-23)
Note
what Gabriel was sent to do, “I am now come forth to give thee skill and
understanding. Therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.” This is Gabriel’s job, to lead us and guide us into all truth. The
vision was a long running prophecy, it runs all the way down to the first and
second coming of the Messiah. Now let's go back into the New Testament and see
this same Gabriel give instructions.
And in
the sixth month the
angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named
Nazareth, (Luke 1:26)
Notice
God always sends Gabriel, he never shows up when he feels like it, let's skip to
the 30th verse and see the message that he was sent to give.
And the angel
said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold,
thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. (Luke 1: 30-31)
This is
the prophecy that Daniel wanted to know about. What did Gabriel do? He informs
Marry that she shall have a child and call His name Jesus. The Lord's method of operation is always the same, the angel simply
brings the message to man. Now let's go to the book of John and see what the
Lord calls this particular angel who is Gabriel and notice what his purpose is.
If ye
love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you
another Comforter, that he may abide
with you for ever; Even the Spirit of
truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither
knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:15-17)
Note the
most important key to eternal life, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” If
you keep the Lord's commandment the comforter will dwell with you and lead you
and guide you into all truths. Now, what is the comforter's or the holy
ghost job?
He that
loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine,
but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet
present with you. But the Comforter,
which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach
you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said
unto you. (John 14:24-26)
Now,
what is the comforter's which is the holy ghost occupation? He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you. When Gabriel was sent to Daniel he gave
instructions by saying that, “I am now come forth to give thee skill and
understanding. Therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.” What
does instruction mean? It means to teach! What is the comforter’ s which is the holy ghost job? He
shall teach you all things. When Gabriel was sent to Zacharias he gave him
instructions by saying? “Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy
wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.” When
Gabriel was sent to Marry he gave her instructions by saying. “Fear not, Mary:
for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy
womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. When Moses seen the
angel of the Lord in the burning bush the angel gave him instructions to go in
to Egypt and lead the Lords people out of bondage. Let's go into the 16th
chapter of John
I have
yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he,
the Spirit of truth, is come,
he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but
whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to
come. (John 16:12-13)
Note
what the Lord says, “the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all
truth.” What else did this spirit do before the Lord came on the seen? He spoke not of himself; but whatsoever he was told by the Lord, and
what ever he was told that is exactly what he spoke. When Gabriel spoke to
the people we have pointed out, what did Gabriel do? He showed them things to
come. Now, let's take a look at a verse that the roman christian community has
deemed this angel as a third member of the Godhead.
For
there are three that bear record in
heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (I
John 5:7)
The
problem is they do not understand the protocol of God. The Protocol is in
Revelations chapter one verse one. Take a look.
The
Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God
gave unto him, to show unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass;
and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: (Revelation
1:1)
Note
what the verse says, The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him.
The Father gave the revelation to Jesus. Note this, “he sent and signified it
by his angel unto his servant John.” What happen to the Holy Ghost? He is
still there but, he is and holy angel not a God. In all the verses we have read
in the Old and the New testaments, each time the angel of the Lord, the angel of
the Lords presence, the spirit of truth, the good spirit, the holy ghost and
Gabriel were all sent by the Godhead. Revealing that this is the same angel each
time and not a member of the God family. Let's go back to I John.
He that
believeth on the Son of God hath the witness inhimself: he that believeth not
God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. (I John 5:10)
What was
the record?
Who bare
record of the word of God, and of the testimony
of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. (Revelation 1:2)
It was
the word of a God. How did man receive the word? Did Jesus come down to speak to
everyone? Let's see what Holy Spirit brought the word to man.
He
that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that
overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. (Revelation 2:11)
He that
hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden
manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written,
which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. (Revelation
2:17)
He that
hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit
saith unto the churches. (Revelation
2:29)
What
spirit brought the message?
I Jesus
have sent mine
angel to testify unto you
these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the
bright and morning star. (Revelation
22:16)
Note
what the verse says, “I Jesus have sent
mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches.” There is no
third member of the Godhead sisters and brothers. The status quo has made angel
into a god by not rightly dividing the scriptures. Now, let's back up in
Revelation chapter twenty two and show once again there is in fact only two
members of the Godhead.
And he
showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the
throne of God and of the Lamb. In the
midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree
of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month:
and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall
be no more curse: but the throne of God
and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: (Revelation
22:1-3)
I hope
we have proven to you that there are only two
members of the Godhead. The Angel
Gabriel is NOT a member of the Godhead, but he bares record of the truth. Once Gabriel brings the message to man,
that make three that bare record in
heaven and one that bare record
on the earth (MAN). Once the Angel
Gabriel gives the message to the designated prophet (MAN), that prophet is to take God's message to the rest of the sons
of Adam.
Peace unto all that fear God and keep His commandments, in Jesus
name amen.
